Assam Congress' candidate for Rajya Sabha polls, Ripun Bora on Monday filed his nomination papers at the Assam Legislative Assembly in Dispur, Guwahati. He was accompanied by State party president Bhupen Borah and other senior leaders.
68-year-old Bora is currently serving as MP Rajya Sabha. He was elected to the Upper House of the Parliament in March 2016 and his tenure will end on April 2.
His candidature was announced by Congress president Sonia Gandhi on March 19.
Before filing his nomination papers, Bora asserted that he will emerge as the winner of the Rajya Sabha elections.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on March 7 had announced that the polls to fill the 13 Rajya Sabha seats across six states will be held on March 31.
Of the 13 seats, five are in Punjab, three in Kerala, two in Assam and one each in Himachal Pradesh, Tripura, and Nagaland.
