Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Pabitra Margherita and ally United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) candidate Rwngwra Narzary for Rajya Sabha polls in Assam filed their nomination papers at the Assam Legislative Assembly in Dispur, Guwahati on Monday.
The candidates were accompanied by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP state president Bhabesh Kalita, CEM of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Pramod Boro, cabinet minister Atul Bora among others.
Margherita's candidature was announced by the BJP on March 18 while Narzary's candidature was announced on March 19.
The Rajya Sabha elections are scheduled to be held on March 31. Apart from Assam, five other states will go for the elections to fill the soon-to-be-vacant 13 Rajya Sabha seats.
Of the 13 seats, five are in Punjab, three in Kerala, two in Assam and one each in Himachal Pradesh, Tripura, and Nagaland.
