It has taken a local court in Assam's Bijni nearly 21 years to find guilty 10 persons of killing a family of three on suspicion of practicing witchcraft. The murder occurred in Banduguri village under Bijni Police Station 21 years back.
The judgment was delivered by judge Yusuf Azaz at the district and sessions court, Bijni on Tuesday.
The court on Tuesday sentenced 10 persons accused in the case, namely, Samal Basumatary, Gayu Basumatary, Gera Basumatary, Hebro Basumatary, Jabati Basumatary, Thiren Basumatary, Sambaru Basumatary, Gagan Basumatary, Aakhu Basumatary and Keteng Boro.
The family of three identified as Ganguly Basumatary, Mallaram Basumatary and Paniram Basumatary were brutally killed by a total of 12 people out of which two are dead. They were merely killed on the suspicion of carrying out witchcraft.
Reportedly, the dead body of Ganguly was recovered but the bodies of the other two haven't been recovered to date.
