Just a few days after K VijayRaghavan, principal scientific advisor to the government warned about a third wave of coronavirus pandemic, the expert on Friday said that the third wave is avoidable.
"If we take strong measures, the third wave may not happen in all the places or indeed anywhere at all," VijayRaghavan asserted.
The expert further said that the third wave will depend much on how effectively the guidance is implemented at the local level, in the states, in districts and in the cities everywhere.
Warning about the future of the Covid crisis, the government's principal scientific advisor said, "Covid third phase is inevitable given the amount of virus circulating. But it is difficult to predict the timeline. We should prepare for the new (third) wave."
VijayRaghavan added that the new variants of the virus are transmitted the same as the original strain. He said that vaccines have to be “updated” to deal with new strains of the virus, along with further surveillance. However, he emphasised that vaccines currently available are effective against existing variants.
