Draupadi, using leftover vegetables and a small amount of dough, created Pani Puri, which impressed Kunti

Pani puri is an Indian snack item made with just the right amount of spices and ingredients to satisfy the taste buds. This is such a popular street food that is known by various names in different parts of the country and is loved by almost everyone. Known by the names phuchka, golgappa, and others, this popular Indian street food has the capacity to bring water in your mouth even while reading about it.

Well, we all must have savoured panipuri at least once in our lifetime. However, we never thought who could have invented these little balls of pure bliss. Going by the legends, panipuri was apparently invented by Draupadi as a challenge to her mother-in-law Kunti’s challenge.

According to sayings, Kunti gave a task to her newlywed daughter-in-law Draupadi who had come home for the first time. As they all were apparently living in exile during that time, the challenge was to manage and live in harmony with the family with the limited resources that they had.

Draupadi’s challenge was to make food that would satisfy the hunger of everyone in the family with some left-over vegetables and enough dough to make one puri, provided by her mother-in-law. This was apparently when Draupadi came up with the idea of panipuri, and Kunti was so impressed with the dish that her daughter-in-law created, the former blessed it with immortality.
