A DNA test has confirmed that the man responsible for the devastating blast near Delhi’s Red Fort was Dr. Umar Un Nabi, a medical professional from Kashmir. His identity remained uncertain until now, as the force of the explosion blew his body apart. The November 10 attack, which occurred on a busy street outside the historic monument, killed at least 12 people and injured dozens more, causing widespread panic and shattering shopfronts in the crowded Old Delhi area.
Investigators had suspected early on that Dr. Umar was the bomber after tracing the purchase of the white Hyundai i20 used in the attack to him, just 11 days before the explosion. Human remains recovered from the vehicle were later matched with DNA samples taken from his family in Pulwama district, confirming that he had been behind the wheel when the bomb detonated.
Authorities have now linked Dr. Umar to a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) logistics module operating across Faridabad, Lucknow, and south Kashmir. The group reportedly included nine to ten members, among them five to six doctors, who exploited their medical credentials to acquire chemicals and materials used in explosives.
