US President Donald Trump ruled out the possibility of resuming trade talks with India until the ongoing tariff dispute is resolved. His remarks come just days after Washington imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods in response to New Delhi’s continued purchase of Russian oil.
When asked by news agency ANI about the prospect of renewed trade negotiations, Trump said firmly, “No, not until we get it resolved.”
The latest executive order, signed by Trump on Wednesday, raises the total tariff on most Indian products to 50%, excluding a few exceptions. The initial 25% tariff took effect on August 7, while the newly announced increase is set to be enforced starting August 27 — 21 days after its issuance.
The escalating trade tensions mark a significant strain in U.S.-India relations, driven by geopolitical frictions linked to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
