Two days after a tragic bus fire in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, that claimed the lives of 20 people, Hyderabad Police Commissioner VS Sajjanar issued a stern warning against drunk driving. Describing intoxicated drivers as “terrorists,” he emphasized that there would be no leniency for those who endanger innocent lives.
The tragedy occurred when a Hyderabad-Bengaluru private sleeper bus collided with a bike that had already been involved in another accident. The collision resulted in the deaths of the biker, Shiva Shankar, and 19 passengers on the bus. Sajjanar confirmed that the biker was under the influence of alcohol, which directly contributed to the incident.
Calling the act a “criminal act of negligence,” Sajjanar stated that such behavior on roads is nothing short of “acts of terror.” In a detailed post on X, he wrote: “The horrific Kurnool bus accident…was not an accident in the truest sense. It was a preventable massacre caused by the reckless and irresponsible behaviour of an intoxicated biker. This was not a road mishap but a criminal act of negligence that annihilated entire families within seconds.”
