The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the second phase of its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, expanding the voter list revision drive to 12 additional states and Union Territories following the completion of the first phase in Bihar.
According to the Commission, the latest phase focuses on removing duplicate and ineligible entries, verifying citizenship documents, and updating voter information to ensure cleaner and more accurate electoral rolls ahead of upcoming elections.

The 12 states and UTs selected for this round were chosen based on their administrative preparedness and readiness to carry out the revision process efficiently. The ECI said that insights gained from the Bihar exercise will help improve the accuracy and implementation of the ongoing nationwide effort.
Officials added that a state-wise schedule and operational guidelines for the second phase will be released soon. The Commission emphasized that the initiative represents one of its most comprehensive measures to modernize and strengthen India’s voter database, reinforcing transparency and electoral integrity across the country.
