The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will commence in Tamil Nadu next week, with other poll-bound states scheduled to follow soon.
The announcement was made during a hearing at the Madras High Court, where the ECI addressed concerns about discrepancies in certain constituencies, including T Nagar. Election officials highlighted that verifying voters who have migrated or whose records are outdated will be a key focus during the exercise.
The revision follows a similar exercise recently conducted in Bihar and aims to ensure that electoral rolls are accurate and up to date ahead of upcoming elections. The ECI has directed state election authorities to begin preparations for the nationwide rollout once the Tamil Nadu exercise is underway.
Officials emphasized that the SIR is a crucial step to strengthen the integrity of the electoral process and ensure eligible voters can exercise their rights without hindrance.
