The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday, August 26, conducted raids at 13 locations, including the residence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj, in connection with a money laundering probe linked to alleged irregularities in hospital construction projects during 2018–19.
The projects, worth approximately Rs 5,590 crore, involved the construction of new hospitals and upgrades to existing facilities. Allegations include delays, cost overruns, and possible embezzlement. Notably, the Rs 1,125 crore ICU Hospital Project, aimed at creating 6,800 beds across seven facilities, remains incomplete despite significant expenditure.
The investigation stems from a complaint filed by BJP MLA Vijender Gupta in August 2024, which led the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) to register a case. The ED’s actions form part of a broader probe into alleged corruption in Delhi’s health infrastructure projects during the AAP government’s tenure.
AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi, have called the raids politically motivated, arguing that Bharadwaj was not a minister during the period under investigation and questioning the basis of the case.
The ED has not yet disclosed details of any assets seized or specific financial irregularities identified. The investigation is ongoing.
