Zubeen Garg, 52, passed away in Singapore on September 19, 2025, after a tragic swimming accident during a yacht trip.

The final rites of legendary Assamese singer Zubeen Garg will be performed in Sonapur, officials have confirmed. The decision was taken after consultations with the family members, who chose the serene location to bid a final farewell to the beloved icon.

Prior to the cremation, Zubeen Garg’s mortal remains will be kept at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati for public viewing, allowing fans and admirers to pay their last respects. The public viewing is scheduled for September 22, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Following this, the remains will be transported to Sonapur for the final rites.

The selection of Sonapur aligns with the family’s wishes and has been facilitated by the Assam government. While some fans had hoped for the cremation to take place in Jorhat, the family has chosen Sonapur as the final resting place for the beloved singer.

Massive crowds of fans have already gathered in and around Guwahati, waiting to accompany the mortal remains on the final journey. Roads are lined with flowers, and emotional scenes continue to unfold as admirers chant his songs and hold placards in his memory.
