US President Donald Trump announced Tuesday, June 24, that a ceasefire agreement has been reached between Israel and Iran, following weeks of escalating conflict in the Middle East. The announcement, made on Trump’s social media platform Truth Social, claimed the ceasefire would be implemented in phases over a 24-hour period and would mark an “official END” to the war.
“CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!” Trump wrote.
“On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, THE 12 DAY WAR,”Trump wrote.
“This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will!” he added.
According to Trump, both nations will be allowed time to complete ongoing military operations before the ceasefire takes effect in a staged rollout. He added that without such an agreement, the conflict could have continued “for years” and brought widespread devastation across the region.

The development comes shortly after Iran launched a missile attack on a US airbase in Qatar, in retaliation for American airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities the previous day. Trump acknowledged the escalation but thanked Iran for what he described as providing “early notice” of the attack. He also expressed hope that Iran had “gotten it all out of their ‘system’” and that the situation could now move toward de-escalation.
The war between Israel and Iran began on June 13, when Israel launched a large-scale military offensive. The two longtime adversaries have since engaged in repeated exchanges of airstrikes, heightening fears of a broader regional conflict.
