On August 22, the Supreme Court modified its order on stray dogs in Delhi-NCR, calling it 'too harsh'.

Supreme Court judge Justice Vikram Nath, who recently headed the three-judge bench that overturned the apex court’s earlier order on stray dogs in Delhi-NCR, expressed gratitude to Chief Justice of India BR Gavai for entrusting him with the case. He remarked that the matter had unexpectedly given him recognition beyond the legal fraternity, making him known not only in India but also internationally.

Speaking at the Regional Conference on Human-Wildlife Conflict in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, on Saturday, Justice Nath shared his thoughts with a touch of humour. He said that the case had brought him blessings not just from dog lovers, but even from dogs themselves, who were sending him good wishes.

Reflecting on his newfound visibility, Justice Nath noted that during a recent Law Asia POLA Summit, international legal representatives inquired about the stray dogs case, making him realise the global attention the matter had drawn. “I am thankful to the stray dogs for giving me this recognition,” he quipped, highlighting how a case rooted in animal rights and civic issues had unexpectedly elevated his public profile.
