The crash in Ahmedabad killed 260 people, including 241 passengers.

The 91-year-old father of late Captain Sumeet Sabarwal has approached the Supreme Court seeking an independent investigation into the Air India crash that killed 260 people in June. The petition by Pushkar Raj Sabarwal calls for a probe led by a retired Supreme Court judge and a panel of independent aviation experts, just weeks after he publicly criticized the government’s handling of the investigation.

In his plea, Sabarwal alleged that the preliminary report by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is deeply flawed and lacks credibility. The report, he claims, wrongly attributes the crash to pilot error, while ignoring several critical and systemic factors that warrant deeper examination by an impartial panel.

The petition further argues that an incomplete and biased inquiry not only fails to identify the real cause of the tragedy but also poses a risk to future passengers. It contends that such negligence undermines aviation safety and violates the right to life under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, underscoring the need for a judicially monitored and transparent investigation into the incident.
