Renowned flutist Deepak Sharma's mortal remains arrived in Assam.

The mortal remains of internationally celebrated flutist Deepak Sharma have arrived at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati on Tuesday, November 4, marking the beginning of a final homecoming for one of Assam’s most beloved musicians.

Sharma, 57, passed away in Chennai on the morning of November 3 after a period of critical illness.

A public tribute will be held at the Ambikagiri Seuj Sangha today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where fans and well-wishers will have an opportunity to pay their final respects. His last rites will follow, to be conducted with full state honours at the Navagraha Crematorium.

The celebrated flutist’s passing has prompted an outpouring of grief from Assam’s cultural community, with tributes highlighting his role in popularising the flute in Assamese music and helping shape the region’s musical identity.

As his body returns home, the hour-long vigil and musical homage become not just a farewell, but a collective act of remembrance — a community coming together to honour the legacy of a maestro whose melodies will linger long beyond his final journey.
