Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the G20 Summit in Johannesburg with a strong appeal to redefine global development priorities. He urged member nations to adopt models that are not only inclusive and sustainable but also informed by deeper civilisational values, arguing that such approaches are crucial for long-term stability.
With the summit being hosted in Africa for the first time, Modi highlighted the significance of reassessing how global progress is measured. He noted that regions historically affected by resource shortages and ecological vulnerabilities require a more empathetic and balanced development framework.
Addressing the session on “Inclusive and sustainable economic growth leaving no one behind,” the Prime Minister said India’s philosophy of Integral Humanism offers valuable guidance for equitable progress. He then introduced three major proposals focused on expanding knowledge cooperation, enhancing skills across continents, and strengthening collective efforts to tackle global security threats.
