Shehbaz Sharif looks on as Donald Trump praises PM Modi, his leadership

US President Donald Trump lauded India, calling it “a great country with a good friend of mine at the top,” without directly naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking at a summit of world leaders in an Egyptian city following the ceasefire in Gaza that ended the Israel-Hamas conflict, Trump expressed optimism about regional relations, saying he believes “India and Pakistan will live very nicely together.”

Addressing the gathering, Trump highlighted India’s progress under its leadership, adding that the country’s top leader has “just done a fantastic job.” While making the remarks, he glanced at Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who was standing nearby, prompting a chuckle from Sharif in response.

Earlier, Trump had praised Sharif and his “favourite field marshal,” Pakistan Army Chief Gen Asim Munir. He also invited the Pakistani prime minister to address the summit. Sharif acknowledged Trump’s role in achieving peace in the Middle East, crediting the US president’s “untiring and relentless efforts.”
