Gunfire erupted just blocks from the White House, leaving several people injured and plunging central Washington, DC into chaos. Among those wounded were two members of the West Virginia National Guard, who had been deployed to the capital as part of President Donald Trump’s anti-crime initiative. Police quickly secured the area and urged residents and visitors to stay clear as emergency crews responded.
The shooting occurred near a Metro station northwest of the White House, an area where National Guard personnel have maintained a visible presence for months. Early reports described the incident as both bold and highly targeted, though authorities have yet to determine a clear motive.
According to Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser and FBI Director Kash Patel, the two injured Guard members were in critical condition and transported to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment. Investigations are underway as officials work to piece together how the attack unfolded.
