Guwahati is all set to welcome Test cricket after a six-year hiatus, with Barsapara Stadium preparing to host its first-ever red-ball international. India will face South Africa in the second Test of the ongoing series, marking a historic moment for cricket in Assam.
The dream of hosting a Test in Guwahati dates back to 2019 when the Assam Cricket Association first proposed the idea. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, a native of Guwahati, acknowledged the support of ICC officials and credited years of persistent efforts for making this landmark match possible.
To accommodate Guwahati’s unique daylight patterns, the match timings have been adjusted. Play will now start at 9 am instead of the usual 9:30 am, with tea being served before lunch to ensure smooth scheduling as the sun sets earlier in the region.
