A day after Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s cabinet resigned en bloc, an expanded council of ministers was sworn in on Friday, October 17, in Gujarat, marking a major political reshuffle in the state. In a key development, Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi has been appointed as the new Deputy Chief Minister.
The new cabinet, comprising 25 ministers, includes 19 fresh faces while retaining three outgoing ministers. Among the new inductees is BJP MLA Rivaba Jadeja, wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, whose inclusion has drawn public attention.
In terms of social representation, the revamped cabinet features a diverse mix — eight ministers from the OBC community, six Patidars, four tribals, three from Scheduled Castes, two Kshatriyas, and one each from the Brahmin and Jain (Laghumati) communities — reflecting the BJP’s effort to balance caste equations ahead of upcoming political challenges.
