Relentless monsoon rains have wreaked havoc across Himachal Pradesh, claiming over 37 lives and causing property damage estimated at over Rs 400 crore, according to the State Disaster Management Authority.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for the region until July 7, warning of continued heavy downpours that could worsen the situation.
The worst-hit Mandi district remains in crisis, with multiple roads blocked and essential services severely disrupted. Search, rescue, and relief operations are ongoing, with authorities struggling to access remote areas.
“We have recorded over Rs 400 crore in losses so far, as entered in our system. But the actual damage is likely to be much higher,” said DC Rana, Special Secretary of the State Disaster Management Authority and the Revenue Department, at a press briefing on Wednesday.
Officials continue to assess the full scale of the destruction, while local administrations are working round the clock to restore connectivity and provide aid to affected communities.
