A government helicopter crashed in northern Pakistan on Monday, September 1, killing all five people on board. Police officials said the chopper went down during what appeared to be a test landing in a mountainous area. The victims included two pilots and three technicians.
The crash occurred near the Thore area of Chilas in the Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan. Rescue teams were dispatched to the site, though the difficult terrain posed challenges to immediate recovery efforts.
Authorities said the helicopter was believed to be a Mi-17, but the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. This marks the second crash involving a Mi-17 in recent weeks, after another went down in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province during flood relief operations.
