Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has suggested that Indian families should ideally have three children. Speaking at a press briefing during the RSS centenary celebrations, he coined the phrase “Hum do, humaare teen”, a twist on India’s long-popular two-child slogan.
Bhagwat said that according to demographic science, communities with fertility rates below replacement level (2.1 children per woman) risk gradual decline. He added that families with three children help maintain balance and sustainability for the future.
The RSS chief also remarked that doctors advise couples to have children at an earlier age and that a three-child family structure is healthier for both parents and children.
Apart from population issues, Bhagwat addressed topics such as reservation policy, the role of Sanskrit and English in education, and the importance of preserving cultural values while adapting to modern needs.
