Assamese singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg passed away following a freak scuba-diving accident in Singapore

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday, September 19, expressed deep grief over the sudden and untimely death of acclaimed singer Zubeen Garg, who passed away in Singapore.

In a statement, Sarma said, “Today Assam lost one of its favourite sons and I am at a loss for words to describe what Zubeen meant for the state. He has gone too early; this was not an age to go.” He added that Zubeen’s voice had an unmatched ability to energise people and that his music spoke directly to the hearts and minds of audiences.

The Chief Minister noted that Garg’s unique voice and creations touched people from all walks of life and that his untimely death would leave a void that could never be filled. “Future generations will remember Zubeen as a stalwart of Assam’s culture, and his work will continue to inspire talented artists in the years to come,” he said.

Sarma also highlighted Zubeen’s humanitarian side, saying the singer always reached out to help those in need and maintained a strong connection with people. “Besides his music, his compassion and passion for helping others will always be remembered. I will greatly cherish all my interactions with him,” he added.

The Chief Minister concluded by saying that Zubeen Garg, with his magical voice and unforgettable creations, would live forever in the hearts of the people and that his immense talent and contributions would continue to inspire new generations of musicians. He also offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
