The Indian Air Force (IAF) is currently conducting a major drill focused on complex ground attack operations across varied terrains, including plains and mountainous regions, according to sources cited by news agency ANI. This exercise comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent Pahalgam attack.
Named Exercise Aakraman, the large-scale operation is being carried out in the central sector and features the IAF’s frontline fighter aircraft, with the Rafale jets taking the lead. The IAF currently operates two Rafale squadrons, stationed at Ambala and Hashimara in West Bengal.
According to defence sources, the Rafale jets – equipped with state-of-the-art technology – are executing advanced missions that include ground attack strategies and electronic warfare operations. These sources also confirmed that assets have been mobilized from various airbases, including those in the eastern region.
Top IAF pilots are participating in the exercise. The drill is part of the IAF’s ongoing preparations for complex combat scenarios, as reported.
