India has become the seventh-largest coffee producer globally, with exports nearly doubling to $1.29 billion in FY24

India has ascended to become the seventh-largest coffee producer in the world, with exports projected to hit $1.29 billion in FY24. This figure is nearly double the $719.42 million recorded in the 2020-21 fiscal year, according to the commerce and industry ministry.

In early January 2025, India shipped more than 9,300 tonnes of coffee, with major purchasers including Italy, Belgium, and Russia.

Around 75% of India’s coffee output is made up of Arabica and Robusta beans, which are mainly shipped abroad in their unroasted form.

The ministry stated that the increasing demand for value-added products such as roasted and instant coffee is contributing significantly to the export surge.
