New Delhi is preparing to send special aircraft to Kathmandu to evacuate Indian nationals stranded at Tribhuvan International Airport after two days of violent protests brought Nepal to a standstill and forced the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Over 400 Indians remain stuck as the airport stays shut, with the Indian Embassy coordinating closely with the Nepali Army to facilitate safe passage. Plans are underway to dispatch two Indian Air Force planes for the evacuation.

The unrest in Nepal has already claimed at least 22 lives. On Tuesday, protesters set fire to Parliament, the President’s Office, the Prime Minister’s residence, party headquarters, and homes of senior leaders, escalating the political crisis to its peak.

Later that night, hundreds of demonstrators stormed Oli’s office, demanding his resignation over corruption charges and his controversial short-lived ban on social media. Facing mounting pressure, Oli stepped down, and the Army assumed responsibility for nationwide security operations.
