Two goods trains derailed on Saturday, August 9, in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharswan district under the South Eastern Railway’s Adra division, prompting the cancellation of several passenger services. The incident occurred between Chandil and Nimdih stations when the trains were passing each other in opposite directions. According to officials, a few carriages of one train derailed and struck the middle portion of the other, causing some of its wagons to also go off the tracks. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The derailment has led to the cancellation of multiple express trains, including the 20897/20898 Howrah–Ranchi–Howrah Vande Bharat Express, 20894 Patna–Tatanagar Vande Bharat Express, 18183 Tatanagar–Buxar Express, 13301/13302 Dhanbad–Tatanagar–Dhanbad Express, and 28181/28182 Tatanagar–Katihar–Tatanagar Express. Several passenger MEMU services such as Tata–Asansol and Tata–Hatia have also been cancelled for the day.
In addition to cancellations, some long-distance trains have been diverted. The Bhubaneswar–New Delhi Rajdhani Express (via Sambalpur) will run through Jharsuguda, Rourkela, Nuagaon, Hatia, Bokaro Steel City, and Rajabera. The Bhubaneswar–New Delhi Purushottam Express will take a diverted route via Hijili, Modinagar, Adra, Bhojudih, and Gomoh to avoid the affected section.
