India’s automobile exports surged 22 per cent year-on-year in the April-June quarter (Q1 FY26), according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). The growth was driven by robust performance across all vehicle categories, including passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, commercial vehicles, and three-wheelers.
In total, India exported 14,57,461 vehicles during Q1 FY26, a significant increase from 11,92,566 units in the same period last year.
Passenger vehicle exports reached an all-time high of 2,04,330 units in the April-June quarter, reflecting a 13% increase over the 1,80,483 units exported during the same period last year.
SIAM attributed the rise to stable demand across international markets, particularly in regions such as the Middle East and Latin America. The sector also benefited from recovering demand in neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka and Nepal, alongside growing interest from Japan. Additionally, Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with countries like Australia played a role in boosting shipments.
Maruti Suzuki retained its position as the top exporter of passenger vehicles, shipping 96,181 cars, a sharp 37 per cent increase compared to 69,962 units in Q1 of the previous year.
Hyundai Motor India followed, exporting 48,140 units, up 13 per cent from 42,600 cars exported during the same period last year.
Strong growth was also recorded across other vehicle segments during the April-June quarter. Two-wheeler exports rose by 23 per cent, reaching 11,36,942 units, up from 9,23,148 units in the same period last year. Commercial vehicle exports also saw a 23 per cent increase, with shipments climbing to 19,427 units. Notably, three-wheeler exports registered the highest growth rate among all categories, surging by 34 per cent to 95,796 units in Q1 FY26.
