India’s seafood exports have surpassed Rs 60,000 crore in the current financial year 2024-25 (FY25), as reported by the Ministry of Finance.

This announcement, released prior to the Union Budget 2025 scheduled for 1 February, highlights initiatives to lower customs duties and implement additional strategies to boost the sector’s competitiveness on a global scale.

Frozen shrimp has become the primary contributor, representing almost two-thirds of total exports.

In FY24, India exported 1.78 million metric tonnes of seafood, with a value of Rs 60,523.89 crore. Despite facing difficulties in significant export markets, this reflects a 2.67 percent rise in volume compared to the prior year.
