The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has levied a Rs 20 lakh fine on IndiGo Airlines following lapses in pilot simulator training at Category C airports. The regulator found that the airline had used uncertified simulators for pilot training, which violates DGCA’s safety and operational guidelines.
IndiGo has acknowledged the notice but clarified that it intends to appeal the penalty. The airline stated that it is committed to maintaining highest safety standards and would ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements.
The DGCA emphasized that simulator training is a critical component of pilot preparation, especially for operations at smaller Category C airports where runway and operational conditions require additional skill. Using uncertified simulators can compromise the quality of training and potentially affect flight safety.
This action highlights the DGCA’s strict oversight of aviation safety and its focus on ensuring that all airlines comply with operational and training standards. Industry experts say such regulatory measures are essential for maintaining passenger safety and pilot competence, particularly as India’s aviation sector continues to expand rapidly.
