The poll body accused political parties of targeting voters while placing the blame on the Election Commission.

The Election Commission of India on Sunday, August 17,  hit back at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of “vote fraud,” stating that the use of terms like “vote chori” amounts to an insult to the Constitution. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, addressing a press conference in New Delhi, said such language was being deployed for political motives.

Kumar asserted that the Commission was being unfairly targeted as a launchpad for political attacks, but stressed that the poll body “stands firmly with the voters.” He underlined that the institution remains committed to upholding free and fair elections across the country.

Joined by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, the CEC emphasised that the Commission makes no distinction between the ruling party and the Opposition. “Every party is the same for us,” he said, adding that the Election Commission will not shy away from fulfilling its constitutional responsibility.
