Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium set to host IPL 2025 final; Playoffs likely in Mullanpur

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has been shortlisted to host the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on June 3, along with Qualifier 2, according to a report by PTI. Meanwhile, the first two playoff matches are likely to be held at the newly built Mullanpur Stadium later this month.

In light of the ongoing monsoon season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made several adjustments to the schedule. The May 23 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), originally scheduled to take place in Bengaluru, has been shifted to Lucknow due to persistent rain. The most recent match at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium – between RCB and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) – was washed out.

Initially, the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad and Eden Gardens in Kolkata were slated to host the playoff matches. However, a week-long suspension of the league due to the recent India-Pakistan military conflict prompted a revised schedule and venue reassignment. Weather conditions were also a key factor in the BCCI’s final decisions.

If confirmed, this will mark the third IPL final hosted at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the last four years. The stadium previously hosted the finals in 2022 and 2023. The 2023 final, which was disrupted by rain on the first day, extended into a reserve day and was ultimately won by Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who defeated Gujarat Titans (GT).
