Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply on Monday, June 23, as Iran launched a new wave of ballistic missiles toward Israel, just a day after the United States carried out precision airstrikes on three major nuclear facilities in Tehran, according to early assessments by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
Explosions were reported over Jerusalem, while air raid sirens sounded across northern Israel, AFP reported. In the southern city of Ashdod, Israeli emergency services responded to reports of a missile strike. The Israeli military confirmed multiple missile launches from Iran, indicating a rapid intensification of hostilities.
According to the Times of Israel, Iran fired approximately 15 ballistic missiles, with several reportedly landing directly on Israeli soil.
This latest exchange comes after the U.S. joined Israel’s military campaign against Iran, targeting key nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan in coordinated airstrikes. In response, Iran announced that its latest assault marked a new phase of its operation, dubbed “True Promise 3,” aimed at key Israeli cities including Tel Aviv and Haifa. Iranian state media said the attack involved a combination of ballistic missiles and drones.
In response to the attack, the Israeli military instructed civilians across the country to seek shelter and remain in secure areas as warning sirens continued to sound.
