Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian sustained minor injuries during an Israeli missile strike on June 16, according to the IRGC-linked Fars News Agency. The strike reportedly targeted a building in western Tehran where a high-level meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council was in progress.
The attack, said to be modelled after an earlier assassination attempt on Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, involved six missiles aimed at sealing the building’s entry and exit points to prevent escape. Among those present during the strike were President Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei.
Despite the intensity of the explosions and a power outage on the lower floors, the officials reportedly escaped through a pre-prepared emergency hatch. Several, including the president, suffered minor injuries during the evacuation.
Fars News also reported that Iranian intelligence is investigating a possible security breach, given the accuracy of the missile strike.
Speaking to US commentator Tucker Carlson, Pezeshkian confirmed the assassination attempt, saying, “They did try… but they failed.”
The incident occurred amid a 12-day spike in regional tensions, during which several senior Iranian military leaders – including IRGC commander Hossein Salami and Armed Forces Chief Mohammad Bagheri—were reportedly killed in separate attacks.
