India’s Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully engineered a 10-tonne propellant mixer designed for solid rocket motors.
This innovative mixer was developed at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR) in Sriharikota, in partnership with the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI) based in Bengaluru, which is a prominent research and development entity under the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
The indigenous 10-tonne Vertical Planetary Mixer holds the distinction of being the largest solid propellant mixer globally. Further details regarding this noteworthy advancement are provided below.
A propellant mixer is a device designed to blend the components of rocket propellants, namely fuel and oxidizer, to achieve a consistent and dependable mixture for solid rocket engines.
