Assam is in mourning as the state bids farewell to legendary singer Zubeen Garg on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. Thousands of fans and well-wishers gathered at Kamarkuchi-Hatimura in Sonapur to pay their last respects, reflecting the deep love and admiration the people had for the musical icon.
Zubeen Garg, who passed away recently in Singapore at the age of 52, leaves behind a remarkable legacy of over three decades, with more than 38,000 songs in 40 languages and dialects. Fans from across Assam traveled to Sonapur to witness the final rites and celebrate the singer’s extraordinary contribution to music.
The cremation was marked by emotional tributes from family, friends, and dignitaries, including political leaders and fellow artists. Amid chants of “Joi Zubeen Da,” tears, and flowers, Assam mourned the loss of a beloved son whose voice had touched millions across the region and beyond.
