Zubeen Garg, a cultural icon of Assam, died under mysterious circumstances in Singapore on September 19, 2025

The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Guwahati has extended the judicial custody of five individuals accused in connection with the death of singer Zubeen Garg by 14 more days.

The accused – North East India Festival chief organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma, his cousin and police officer Sandeepan Garg, and his personal security officers Nandeshwar Bora and Paresh Baisya – were produced before the court via video conferencing following the expiry of their earlier remand period.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the case, sought an extension of custody to continue gathering evidence and recording witness statements. The court approved the plea after reviewing the investigation’s progress report.

All five accused remain lodged in Baksa District Jail, while the SIT is expected to question more individuals connected to the case in the coming days. On the other hand, band member Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and co-singer Amritprabha Mahanta, who were recently arrested in connection with the same case, are currently lodged in Haflong Jail.
