Former Supreme Court judge Justice Reddy filed his nomination papers on Thursday, August 21, accompanied by senior Congress leaders, in what the opposition bloc described as a strong ideological statement. His candidature was formally endorsed in the presence of Congress President and Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi.
Justice Reddy, widely respected for his judicial integrity and progressive judgments, also served as the first Lokayukta of Goa. Known for his consistent advocacy of constitutional values and social justice, his nomination is being projected as a deliberate effort by the opposition to highlight credibility, experience, and institutional commitment in contrast to the NDA’s nominee.
The Vice Presidential election, scheduled for September 9, is being framed by the INDIA bloc as more than just a contest between individuals. Instead, it is being presented as a battle of ideologies—one that seeks to underline constitutional responsibility and democratic principles at a critical political juncture.
