K Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and a suspended leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has spoken out for the first time since her removal from the party. Addressing the media in Hyderabad, Kavitha said she has been “fighting for people’s causes” ever since her release from Tihar Jail in 2024, and that her work has always been guided by a sense of responsibility toward society.
Her remarks come just a day after she resigned from both the BRS and her Legislative Council membership, following her suspension on charges of engaging in “anti-party activities.” Kavitha rejected this characterisation, claiming that her outreach and activism were intended to serve the public, not to weaken the party.
Significantly, she levelled sharp accusations against her cousins, Harish Rao and Santosh Rao, alleging corruption and internal sabotage. She also expressed disappointment with her brother and BRS working president, KT Rama Rao, for what she described as his silence during a “malicious campaign” targeting her.
Kavitha’s ouster marks a turning point for the BRS, already struggling with internal divisions after losing power in Telangana. Political analysts say her departure could deepen fissures within the party, particularly given her family ties to the top leadership and her role as a prominent face of the organisation in its early years.
Kavitha, a former MP from Nizamabad, had been arrested in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case but was released from Tihar Jail last year. Since then, she says she has engaged in social and political work focused on women’s empowerment and regional issues. “My commitment remains with the people,” she said, insisting that she will continue her activism despite parting ways with the BRS.
