Comedian Kunal Kamra has launched a satirical music video addressing the vandalism at The Habitat following his remarks about Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde

Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has shared a new video on Tuesday, March 25, addressing the recent vandalism at Mumbai’s Habitat Comedy Club, where his jokes about Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde sparked widespread controversy.

The video, which features Kamra singing a modified version of the popular song Hum Honge Kamyaab, takes aim at Shiv Sena workers who damaged the comedy club following Kamra’s performance. The comedian’s remarks, which included calling Shinde a gaddar (traitor) in reference to the 2022 split of the Shiv Sena, have led to criticism from various Maharashtra government officials.

In the video, Kamra sings, ‘Hum honge kangal ek din, man mein hai andhvishwas, desh ka satyanash, (we will be poor one day, there is blind faith in the heart, the country is heading towards destruction) as footage shows Shiv Sena members vandalizing the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai’s Khar area. Kamra also mentions controversial figures like Nathuram Godse and self-proclaimed godman Asaram, targeting Sena leaders who have criticized and threatened him.

The controversy began when Kamra’s performance, which included a parody of a popular Hindi song, mocked Shinde over the political rift within Shiv Sena and NCP. On the night of Sunday, March 23, 2025, Shiv Sena activists reportedly damaged the Habitat Comedy Club and a hotel on whose premises the club is located.

In response to Kamra’s comments, the Maharashtra government demanded an apology from the comedian on Monday, March 24, 2025, accusing him of engaging in a politically charged “contract act.” The government also announced an investigation into Kamra’s phone records and bank statements to determine if there was any external influence behind his actions.

Kamra, however, stood by his remarks, stating that he would not apologize to the “mob” and expressed his willingness to cooperate with any legal proceedings. In a statement issued on March 24, he confirmed his readiness to face lawful actions from the police and courts. On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, the Mumbai Police issued a notice to Kamra, accusing him of making derogatory comments about Shinde.
