Singer and actor Lady Gaga has added another accolade to her impressive career, winning a Sports Emmy Award for her stirring Super Bowl performance of Hold My Hand, the anthem from Top Gun: Maverick. The performance earned the Outstanding Music Direction award and was dedicated to the victims of the New Year’s attack that claimed 14 lives.
Now officially an Emmy winner, Gaga is just one award away from achieving EGOT status – the industry’s most prestigious honour, awarded to individuals who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award.
Gaga’s emotional Super Bowl performance featured her on piano, joined by her band and a powerful choir. The tribute reached a poignant peak when Louisiana State Police troopers, New Orleans police officers, first responders, and law enforcement officers took the front row, creating a deeply moving moment. The tribute also included a segment featuring NFL legend Tom Brady, further heightening its emotional resonance.
Hold My Hand beat out strong contenders in the category, including:
Evolution of the Black Quarterback
The Lionheart
Noche UFC: For Mexico, For All Time
The Turnaround
With this win, Gaga now holds an Emmy, Grammy, and Academy Award (Oscar) – needing only a Tony Award to complete her EGOT. The Tony would recognize excellence in theatre, a realm Gaga has yet to formally conquer.
Should she achieve it, Gaga would join a select group of EGOT winners that includes Richard Rodgers, Helen Hayes, Rita Moreno, Audrey Hepburn, John Legend, Viola Davis, and Elton John—a rare and illustrious club in the world of entertainment.
