A lawyer attempted to attack Chief Justice of India BR Gavai in the Supreme Court, but was stopped by security

A dramatic scene unfolded in the Supreme Court on Monday, October 6, when a lawyer attempted to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai, shouting that India would not tolerate the “insult of Sanatana Dharma.” The incident occurred during a court hearing, leaving the courtroom stunned before security personnel quickly intervened and detained the lawyer.

Despite the commotion, CJI Gavai remained calm and instructed others to proceed with the hearing, saying, “Don’t get distracted by all this. These things do not affect me. Continue with the hearing.” The lawyer involved was identified as a member of the Bar Association since 2011, according to sources present in court.

The outburst came just weeks after Justice Gavai faced criticism for remarks made during a case concerning the restoration of a damaged Vishnu idol, when he reportedly told petitioners to “go and ask the deity itself.” The Chief Justice later clarified that his words were misinterpreted and reaffirmed his respect for all religions.
