In a chilling case from Bengaluru, a woman whose body was discovered stuffed in a sack and dumped in a garbage truck was allegedly murdered by her live-in partner, police have revealed. The victim, identified as 40-year-old Asha, had been in a relationship with the accused, 33-year-old Mohammed Shamshuddin, who has now been arrested for the crime.
The gruesome discovery was made on June 29 by officials from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the city’s civic body. Sanitation workers found the gunny bag containing the body – her hands tied – inside a garbage truck. Police were immediately alerted, and a case of murder was registered. The body was sent for autopsy as investigators launched a full-scale probe.
CCTV footage and other forensic evidence led police to Shamshuddin, a native of Assam. He and Asha had reportedly been in a relationship for over a year and a half, living together in a rented house in South Bengaluru’s Hulimavu area. Both were already married and had two children each, but they presented themselves publicly as a married couple. Asha, a widow, worked as a housekeeping professional for Urban Company.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lokesh B Jagalasar, the couple had a heated argument, which escalated into violence. Shamshuddin allegedly strangled Asha to death during the altercation.
In an attempt to cover up the crime, Shamshuddin transported her body on a bike, concealed it in a sack, and dumped it in a garbage truck before fleeing the scene. His movements were captured on CCTV, helping police identify and apprehend him. The investigation is ongoing.
