The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed on Thursday, July 10, that all 31 workers trapped in a collapsed industrial tunnel in the Wilmington area have been safely rescued. All individuals are believed to be tunnel workers, and none showed any visible injuries.
The collapse occurred on Wednesday, initially raising fears that at least 15 workers were trapped underground. In response, the fire department deployed over 100 emergency personnel to the site, located roughly six miles south of the tunnel’s only access point.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass provided regular updates throughout the rescue operation, as emergency teams worked through the night to ensure the safe evacuation of all workers. The swift and coordinated response helped avert what could have been a major tragedy.
