Amid rising concerns about a potential influx of illegal migrants from neighbouring countries experiencing internal unrest, the Manipur administration has sounded a high alert. In a strong move to bolster border security, the state has directed all Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to intensify surveillance across international, interstate, and inter-district borders. The aim is to prevent unauthorized entry and safeguard the region’s demographic and security interests.
According to an official advisory issued, district authorities have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance and implement a robust mechanism to intercept illegal border crossings. Any individual found attempting to enter the state without valid documentation must be promptly identified and recorded. The advisory emphasizes the immediate collection of both biometric and biographic data of such individuals to ensure thorough documentation.
The Manipur government has further instructed that all intercepted migrants be placed in secure, designated shelters, with no scope for integration into local communities. While humanitarian assistance will be extended to those in need, the administration made it clear that such measures would be carefully controlled to avoid any impact on the state’s demographic composition or internal security.
