The Government of India and the Manipur state administration have signed a revised Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki-Zo groups, marking a key step toward restoring peace in the region.
The agreement includes the reopening of National Highway-2 (NH-2), a vital supply route connecting Manipur with Nagaland and the rest of Northeast India. The Kuki-Zo Council has pledged to cooperate with security forces to maintain peace along the highway.
Under the revised SoO, several camps of Kuki-Zo groups will be relocated from conflict-prone areas to reduce tensions. This development comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Manipur, his first since ethnic violence erupted in May 2023, which claimed around 260 lives.
Authorities say the agreement signals a renewed commitment to lasting peace and stability in the state.
