Actor Mukul Dev, known for his versatile performances across Hindi, Punjabi, and South Indian films as well as Indian television, has passed away on May 23 at the age of 54. The cause of his death has not been made public.
He was in the ICU as he wasn’t keeping well for a few days. The 54-year-old actor is survived by his brother Rahul Dev. Actor Vindu Dara Singh confirmed the heartbreaking news to the media.
Vindu shared, “After the passing of his parents, Mukul had withdrawn from the public eye. He rarely stepped out or met people. His health had declined significantly in recent days, and he was admitted to the hospital. My deepest condolences to his brother and to everyone who loved him. Mukul was a wonderful human being – we will all miss him dearly.”
Actress Deepshika Nagpal expressed her shock, saying she was unable to come to terms with the news. Actor Manoj Bajpayee took to social media to pay tribute, writing, “It’s impossible to put into words what I’m feeling. Mukul was a brother in spirit, an artist whose warmth and passion were unmatched. Gone too soon, too young. Praying for strength and healing for his family and everyone grieving this loss. Miss you meri jaan… until we meet again. Om Shanti.”
Born on September 17, 1970, in New Delhi, Mukul carved out a unique and enduring space for himself in the Indian entertainment industry. A graduate of St. Columba’s School, he also held a certificate in aeronautics from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Aviation in Raebareli – a path he ultimately chose not to pursue in favour of acting.
Mukul began his career in 1996 with the television series Mumkin, and that same year made his film debut in Dastak, opposite Sushmita Sen. Over the years, he featured in a wide range of roles in films such as Yamla Pagla Deewana, Son of Sardaar, R… Rajkumar, and Jai Ho. He also gained recognition for his work in regional cinema and significant television projects like 21 Sarfarosh – Saragarhi 1897.
