Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that his late mother was subjected to verbal abuse from an Opposition alliance stage, calling it an insult to every mother, sister, and daughter in the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, September 2, condemned derogatory comments allegedly made about his late mother during an RJD-Congress rally in Bihar, calling it an insult not just to him but to “all mothers, sisters, and daughters of the country.”

Speaking at a public meeting, Modi said, “My mother had nothing to do with politics. Abusing her from a political stage is not only an attack on me but a humiliation of every woman in this nation.”

He added, “These abuses are not just an insult to my mother. These are insults to the mothers, sisters and daughters of the country.”

The incident has triggered a political row, with the BJP accusing the opposition of crossing limits of decency, while the RJD and Congress are yet to issue a formal response.

“My late mother was insulted from the stage of the RJD-Congress in Bihar. I can feel the anguish that every mother and family in Bihar must have felt after witnessing this. The pain in my heart is the same pain that the people of Bihar are carrying today,” the PM added.

The controversy comes amid an already heated campaign atmosphere in Bihar, where both alliances are stepping up their attacks ahead of upcoming elections.
